The crystals adopt a circular pattern of flat plates, resulting in a shape resembling that of a rose blossom. Gypsum roses often exhibit more distinct, sharper edges compared to baryte roses. Other bladed evaporite minerals, such as celestine, can also form clusters of rosettes. These blooms can range in size from pea to 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter. The sand in the crystal structure is influenced by the surrounding environment and may also cover the crystals. The presence of iron oxides can alter the color of the rosettes to a rusty hue.
