Detroit Dark Red is a classic American heirloom beet introduced in 1892 and still widely grown more than a century later. The dependable plants produce smooth, round beets approximately 4 inches across, with deep red flesh and attractive bright green tops. The tender roots have a rich, sweet flavor and fine texture that makes them excellent for fresh eating, roasting, canning, and pickling. Harvest them young for especially tender beets, or allow them to reach full size for preserving and winter use. The leafy green tops are edible as well and can be harvested young for salads or cooked like other beet greens. Easy to grow and reliably productive, Detroit Dark Red remains an excellent all-purpose variety for the home garden. Approximately 58 days to harvest. Each packet contains a minimum of 100 seeds.
