DEWALT D55168 Portable 1.9 HP Air Compressor (15 Gallon Vertical) If you want a true “workshop” compressor that still rolls easily around a garage, the DEWALT D55168 is built for e xactly that job: high-pressure storage, strong airflow for real air tools, and a cleaner, quieter experience than typical oil-lube shop units. With a vertical 15-gallon tank footprint, it tucks into a corner, then comes out ready for automotive maintenance, small-equipment service, woodworking, and clean-up tasks—without the mess of oil changes. High-pressure air delivery that keeps tools moving The D55168 is designed around Efficient High Pressure (EHP®) performance—store more air at a higher tank pressure so you get longer tool runtimes between cycles and faster recovery when the pump kicks on. It’s rated for up to 225 PSI max tank pressure and delivers 5.0 SCFM at 90 PSI, which is a strong “shop-capable” airflow number for many common pneumatic tools. That performance translates into practical capability for: Sanding with dual-action or random-orbit sanders Running impact wrenches and ratchet wrenches for automotive work Spraying paint, glue, or lacquer with a spray gun General shop blow-off and dust control Quieter, cleaner, and easier to live with Nobody wants a compressor that dominates the whole shop. The D55168 is rated at 78 dBA, making it noticeably more comfortable for longer sessions than many traditional “loud shop” compressors. It also uses an oil-free pump design, so you skip messy oil maintenance while still getting a durable, workshop-ready setup. Portable, stable, and built to take abuse The D55168 uses a vertical tank and a wide, stable wheelbase so it can roll easily while staying planted when running. Semi-pneumatic tires (no tire maintenance), a rugged roll-cage style frame, and a dual-purpose handle/hose wrap help it handle daily shop life. A metal console panel shields the gauges, coupler, and regulator from bumps. Fast hookups and straightforward controls Setup should be quick. The D55168 uses a universal quick-connect coupler body designed to accept common plug styles (Industrial, Automotive, and ARO) with simple push-to-connect use. You also get an easy-to-read control layout with a high-flow regulator/coupler setup intended to maximize air tool runtime. When you’re done, a tank drain at the base helps you clear condensation (a simple habit that reduces internal rust and keeps performance consistent). What’s included and how it’s built Part of what makes the D55168 feel “shop ready” is the hardware: a steel vertical tank, belt-drive layout, and a slower 1750 RPM pump speed that’s geared toward durability and lower noise. The unit is commonly equipped with a protective roll cage, integrated hose storage, a control panel/console area, and a ball drain valve to make daily draining fast and painless.
