Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry The DEXA Scan measures the 3 essential body composition elements for longevity and restoring a youthful body. It is measuring how frail you will become and how quickly you need to intervene to prevent further bone and muscle loss. The 3 Body Composition Elements being measured are - Bone Density – especially of the hips and lower spine. Are you ageing rapidly and losing bone mass? Are you already in the osteoporosis range? There are many interventions that can regrow bone density and prevent fracture or breaks. Muscle Mass – are you suffering from Sarcopenia (muscle loss)? Losing your muscle mass leads to a frailer body, less strength to do everyday tasks, and drives metabolic dysfunction and weight gain (especially around your middle). Fat Mass – how much adipose or visceral tissue are you depositing in your body? What impact is this having on your blood sugars, cholesterol, joints, and your body image. The DEXA Scan is much more accurate than other body composition testing methods such as underwater weighing, Bodpod, bioelectrical impedance, and skinfold (callipers) measurements, where errors of more than 1-2kg can be common. The DEXA machine can measure changes in muscle and fat tissue mass down to 200-300 grams.
