Dhansak Curry Pack Cook Rafi’s version of this traditional Parsi recipe which combines meat with vegetables and lentils. This Curry Pack creates a filling meal, perfect for feeding a big family. Rafi’s Dhansak has earthy and savoury flavours from a blend including garlic, fenugreek leaves and nigella seeds. Before adding the main ingredient, lentils, potato, carrot, aubergine and spinach are cooked with the spices to create a hearty masala. A traditional, hearty recipe from the Parsi community. It would usually be served on a Sunday when there would be time for the slow cooking of the lentils and vegetables. The Dhansak combines meat with vegetables and lentils, as indicated by the name - Dhan means grains and Sak means vegetables. As a bonus, these are all cooked together in one pan, which means less washing up! Traditionally, a Dhansak would be served with fried meatballs (koftas) and rice browned with caramelised sugar. Our Dhansak Curry Pack was influenced by the Dhansak recipe in Rafi’s ‘Taste of India’ cookbook, which she also called - Hot and Sour Meat and Lentil Curry.
