They need live sand as their substrate and will create burrows to live in and to find food. They should be offered defrosted mysis shrimp, brine shrimp and other meaty foods placed in the sand. Though they are usually not aggressive towards other fish, they are territorial of their burrows and will fight with others of their kind, except for their mates. In the wild they are found in monogamous pairs.
