Dieffenbachia is part of the Araceae family and its native range is Mexico to Tropical America. This particular variety has large, moderately rugose, elliptic shaped leaves with super vibrant shades of green and white. Dieffenbachia seguine ‘Reeva’ originated as a naturally-occurring, whole plant mutation of Dieffenbachia seguine ‘Tropic Snow’. It has a compact growth habit with numerous freely-branching main shoots, an abundance of large obovate foliage which is centrally and irregularly blotched with light yellow-green, these characteristics are stable. Dieffenbachia is New Latin and was named after German horticulturalist, Ernst Dieffenbach. Light: Bright indirect light, meaning the plant sees the sun for 0-4 hours per day - this could be through trees or a translucent curtain, it’s important for the plant to see the sky in order to thrive. Water: Dieffenbachia prefer their substrate to be consistently moist, allow the top inch of the mix to dry out. Pour water slowly over the top of the substrate and allow the water to pass through the drainage holes. If your plant is in a darker spot, allow the mix to dry out more thoroughly. Potting mix: A well draining mix composed of coco coir, perlite or vermiculite, orchid bark and worm castings. Fertilising: Feed your plant every other watering during the growing season or when you observe active growth. You can dilute fertiliser to half the recommended amount but never add more. Temperature: 18-29°C. Humidity: At least 60% but Dieffenbachia adapt well to average home humidity. You can increase humidity by placing the plant on a watered pebble tray or using a humidifier. Dieffenbachia are toxic, keep out of reach of pets and children, wash hands if you get sap on them.
