Built around two powerful picture books, A Kids Book About War by Sarah Jones and What Is War? by Eduard Altarriba, this unit takes a literature-first approach that works for mixed-age families. No lectures. No worksheets. Just good books, rich conversation, and room to wonder. What is included: The core unit runs 3 days and can extend to 5. Each day follows the same simple rhythm: Read, Talk, Make/Do, Notice, and Age Extensions. Every child participates in the same shared experience, with tiered responses for Pre-Readers through 8th grade. The unit also includes a facilitator language guide, a parent note on previewing difficult content, an art component featuring war-related works spanning centuries and cultures, an anchor and companion literature list, and notes on supplemental resources, including the Children of War series by Hazem Nassar and Something Bad Happened by Dr. Dawn Huebner.
