Schema therapy is an innovative, integrative therapy that expands beyond cognitive-behavioural therapy, incorporating additional aspects of attachment, Gestalt, object relations and emotion focused therapies. Designed to treat long standing emotional difficulties, schema therapy is a rich, deep therapy that provides a model of psychopathology explaining etiology and clinical presentation. With an emphasis on altering deeply rooted life patterns and highly charged emotional schemas that have origins in childhood and adolescence, schema therapy is a mechanism of change. Part 1 of Schema Therapy Tool Kit has vibrant, colourful cue cards designed to guide sessions using a schema therapy framework. The cards in this set outline (37 A5 Cue Cards): What is a schema? How are schemas formed? What is an early maladaptive schema? Teach the origins of maladaptive schemas and introduce the concept of 5 core emotional needs. Deepen your clients understanding by providing striking visuals that represent your client's experience. Cue cards can be particularly effective when schemas present within the therapeutic setting or to use as a prompt when clients are at home or work. When a maladaptive schema is identified, clients can then work to bring unconscious patterns of interacting, thinking and behaving into conscious awareness, making change possible.
