Dihydro Alpha Ionone is the shy (and costly) member of the family, rarely making an appearance. But this underrated aroma chemical forms a natural part of some of the most wonderful natural materials: Osmanthus, Champaca and violets. While the gamma variant (a constituent of ambergris) is warm and woody, this alpha type is ambery, floral and woody making it ideal for adding a violet note in a way that differs from most commercial fragrances which tend to rely on the much cheaper ionones. Our Dihydro Alpha Ionone is very high purity and has a wonderfully addictive and enticing odour which is far more delicate and natural than Dihydro Beta Ionone which is also fruitier and greener. Blends of all three can be used for interesting and novel effects. Dihydro Alpha Ionone blends very well with Petitgrain and other oils of the citrus family, as well as violet odorants and naturals. Accords with Iso E Super and ambers like Norlimbanol, Operanide, Ambrocenide and especially Spirambrene are interesting and extremely modern smelling.
