Dionaea muscipula 'Mirror' is a cultivated Venus Flytrap selection developed and maintained in horticulture for its distinctive appearance. Registered cultivar by Dieter Blancquaert. Like all Venus Flytraps, it ultimately derives from the species native to the nutrient-poor bogs and wet savannahs of North and South Carolina in the United States. This cultivar is best known for its mirrored accessory traps and partial secondary trap lobes. Mature plants produce paired snap traps lined with sensitive trigger hairs that allow the plant to capture small insects. Depending on season, maturity and growing conditions, the traps may develop varying degrees of red pigmentation that contrast with the green foliage. 'Mirror' grows as a perennial rosette and enters a winter dormancy period typical of the species. The defining characteristics are generally maintained through vegetative propagation, making this clone particularly desirable among collectors interested in the diversity of Venus Flytrap cultivars. As with other forms of Dionaea muscipula, rapid trap movement is powered by specialised leaf tissue that responds to repeated stimulation.
