The debut album of electronic music from artist and musician, Monty Glen. As the title suggests, this is a record that represents the resonance and blurry boundaries between delight and despair. How two seemingly opposing and contradictory concepts are fundamentally reliant on the other to exist. A collection of songs produced on the periphery. Monty Glen was signed off from his job as a secondary school English teacher with severe stress. He had already lost all of his hair with alopecia and was starting to experience panic attacks. The doctor provided a ‘fit note’ without hesitation and told Monty Glen to get some rest. While providing a necessary and momentary reprieve, the increasingly longer periods of time spent in bed would only lead to a spiralling and debilitating case of depression and anxiety which quickly made getting out of bed the problem. Yet despite such a humbling acquaintance with mental instability, Monty Glen found solace and strength in music. The resulting album is a myriad of house, techno, breakbeat, dub and ambient electronica which also functions as a raw autobiographical narration of a character at a critical moment. It is selection of songs that pay a poetic a polyphonic homage to the cathartic and curative powers of creativity. It reminds us that no matter where we are, no matter how wonderful or woeful a situation may seem, that it is only ever destined to change. Nothing lasts. We go on. We progress. We move on to the next chapter.
