Product Description Brazilian waterman Kalani Lattanzi swimming Nazare and diving under a big wave.Story behind the image: This insane session took place on the 24th of October, 2016. The flippers you seen on the image belong to Kalani Lattanz who was swimming Nazare. The waves were huge, some above 60ft, a strong offshore wind and some really beautiful a-frames, Nazare style. I remember watching Kalani in the water and thinking he was on a bodyboard. It took me a while to find out he was swimming. I was baffled and since I was shooting alone I didn’t have anybody to share my astonishment with. There’s not much more I can say about this day, and I guess the image speak for itself. Kalani is a unique individual, a true waterman. Born in Maui, Hawaii, growing up in Itacoatiara, Brazil, one of the most heavy beachbreaks in the world, it all came together to create this incredible wave rider. Some call him a sea creature and they’re not wrong. Garrett McNamara said “Kalani goes in the ocean where fish are afraid”. Kelly Slater called one of his waves in Jaws "one of the greatest rides in the surf world”. A lot of the most well respected riders have spoken about him with admiration and its totally deserved. Also, he’s a great human being, humble, nice and positive.
