Su-27 Ukrainian Flanker is arguably the most recognizable Flanker in the World. After 1991, Ukrainians substituted the standard Soviet camo scheme with their own. That led to different options throughout the years, including the famous Splinter Camouflage and later on – Digital Camo scheme with which Ukraine entered the war with Russia in early 2022. With the progress of the military action in the months following, analyzers decided that a new scheme is more appropriate for the Flankers. That was concluded depending on the mission profiles, altitudes flown during better part of the flights as well as experience from previous and different jets used historically. That gave the birth to the: Compass Ghost Camo That is the latest camouflage scheme that was applied on Ukrainian Su-27 Flankers. It resembles the initial F-15A/C camouflages. Considering the overall shape of the Sukhoi jet, as well as its significant size, the spots were altered and applied in a manner resembling splinter camo, which differs from early F-15 camouflage schemes. This particular appearance was used on single seat Flanker jets, or at least scarce information that is available points in that direction. Given the fact that Ukrainians are using MiG-29 Fulcrum as well as F-16 Viper in their Air Force, Compass Ghost is probably a scheme that won’t be further improved and might remain as historical one, due to Su-27 age and its newest substitute – the F-16.
