The DOD Phasor 201 is a straightforward analogue phaser pedal based on the classic DOD 201 circuit, delivering smooth, musical phase modulation with an exceptionally simple control layout. Its 2-stage phasing circuit produces a lighter and more articulate sweep than many deeper multi-stage phasers, helping the effect remain clear even at faster modulation speeds. It works equally well with clean guitar, crunchy rhythm tones and distortion, adding movement without overwhelming the original character of your sound. Updated components, true bypass switching, a blue status LED, lightweight aluminium chassis and modern power connection make the current Phasor 201 easy to integrate into a modern pedalboard while retaining the character of the original design. The Phasor 201 is deliberately simple. Rather than loading the pedal with depth, resonance and feedback controls, DOD focuses on the essential character of the original circuit: a smooth 2-stage analogue phase sweep controlled from a single Speed knob. This makes the 201 particularly easy to dial in and gives it a lighter modulation character that works well when you want movement without the effect becoming excessively deep or dominant. Classic 2-Stage Analog Phasing The Phasor 201 uses a 2-stage phasing circuit. Compared with deeper phaser designs using more stages, 2-stage phasing generally produces a lighter and more open modulation character. That makes it particularly useful for: Clean rhythm guitar Funk Psychedelic guitar Classic rock Indie Alternative Blues Driven rhythm guitar Lead guitar Subtle movement behind chords DOD specifically highlights the 201's ability to remain articulate at faster settings, where deeper phasers can become busier or more congested. Simple Speed Control The single Speed control determines how quickly the phaser sweeps. Slower Settings Lower Speed settings produce broad, gradual movement. These work particularly well for: Sustained chords Slow psychedelic sweeps Ambient textures Clean arpeggios Lead guitar Medium Settings Mid-range Speed settings give the classic swirling phaser sound associated with rock, funk and 1970s guitar tones. Faster Settings Increase Speed for: Faster rhythmic movement Funk guitar More obvious modulation Pulsing clean sounds Experimental textures Because the 201 uses relatively light 2-stage phasing, faster settings retain good note definition. Works With Clean & Distorted Guitar Some modulation pedals can become overly complex when placed around distortion. The DOD Phasor 201's lighter phase character makes it particularly useful with both clean and driven sounds. With Clean Guitar Expect: Smooth movement Added depth Funk-style modulation Psychedelic textures More animation in sustained chords With Overdrive & Distortion The 201 can add movement to: Classic rock rhythm Distorted riffs Sustaining lead tones Fuzz Crunch sounds Its relatively uncluttered sweep helps retain the character of the underlying gain tone. Where Should The Phasor 201 Go In The Signal Chain? Phaser placement is largely a matter of preference. Before Overdrive or Distortion Placing the 201 before gain pedals usually produces a more integrated and subtle phase effect. A useful starting point is: Guitar → Phasor 201 → Overdrive / Distortion → Delay → Reverb → Amplifier After Overdrive or Distortion Placing the phaser after gain generally makes the modulation more obvious. This can work particularly well for: Psychedelic rock Lead guitar Sweeping distorted chords More pronounced modulation Both approaches are useful, so experimenting with pedal order is worthwhile. Who Is It For? The DOD Phasor 201 is particularly well suited to: Classic rock Psychedelic rock Funk Indie Alternative Blues Clean rhythm guitar Lead guitar Overdriven guitar Players who prefer simple controls Guitarists looking for vintage-style analogue modulation Pedalboards where space and easy operation matter Why Choose A 2-Stage Phaser? Phaser pedals can use different numbers of phase-shifting stages. More stages generally create a deeper and more complex sweep. A 2-stage phaser such as the DOD 201 produces a lighter, more open effect. That can be particularly useful if you want the phaser to add movement while allowing your original guitar tone, pick attack and distortion character to remain clearly audible. Vintage Character, Modern Pedalboard Features The current DOD Phasor 201 is based on the original circuit design but includes several practical updates for modern use. These include: Updated components True bypass switching Blue status LED Lightweight aluminium enclosure Modern external power connection This retains the straightforward character of the classic pedal while making it easier to integrate into a contemporary rig. How It Compares DOD Phasor 201 vs Deeper Multi-Stage Phaser A multi-stage phaser generally produces a stronger and more complex sweep. The 201's 2-stage design is lighter and more articulate, particularly at faster modulation speeds. DOD Phasor 201 vs Chorus Chorus creates modulation by combining the dry sound with a slightly delayed and pitch-modulated signal. Phasing instead creates moving frequency cancellations, producing a sweeping character without the same detuned quality. DOD Phasor 201 vs Flanger Flanging typically produces a stronger comb-filtered or jet-like sound. The Phasor 201 is smoother and subtler, making it especially useful when you want modulation that sits naturally around the original guitar tone. What's Included? The Phasor 201 adds a smooth analogue phase sweep to your guitar signal, creating movement ranging from slow psychedelic swirls to faster rhythmic modulation. Is the DOD Phasor 201 analogue? Yes. It is an analogue phaser based on the original DOD Phasor 201 circuit. How many phasing stages does it have? The DOD 201 uses 2-stage phasing. What does 2-stage phasing sound like? It produces a lighter and more open phase sweep than many higher-stage designs, helping the guitar remain articulate. What controls does the Phasor 201 have? It uses a simple single Speed control. What does the Speed control do? Speed determines how quickly the phasing effect cycles. Is it good for slow psychedelic phasing? Yes. Lower Speed settings produce broad, gradual phase sweeps that work particularly well for psychedelic and ambient guitar. Can it produce faster phaser sounds? Yes. Higher Speed settings create quicker modulation while the 2-stage circuit helps maintain clarity. Does the DOD Phasor 201 work with distortion? Yes. DOD specifically designed the 201 to sound good with both clean and distorted guitar tones. Is it suitable for funk guitar? Yes. Faster settings can add rhythmic movement to clean funk playing. Where should I place it on my pedalboard? A good starting point is before overdrive and distortion, although placing it after gain pedals produces a stronger and more obvious phase effect. Is the current version based on the original DOD 201? Yes. DOD describes it as a faithful update of the original Phasor 201 circuit using updated components. Does the DOD Phasor 201 have true bypass? Yes. The current version uses true bypass switching. Does it have a status LED? Yes. It features a blue status LED. Can the Phasor 201 run from a battery? Yes. It can operate from a standard 9V alkaline battery. What power supply does it require? It can be powered from a compatible regulated 9V DC pedal power supply. Is a power supply included? No. A compatible external power supply is not included. Why Buy From Fair Deal Music?
