Everyone, meet Veronica! Veronica was diagnosed with congenital hydrocephalus with Chiari malformation, spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, Agenesis of the corpus callosum, cortical visual impairment as well as a heart defect. This has caused her to be cognitively and mentally delayed. Despite these limitations, she is still able to sew these leashes through a “foot” pedal using her hand while her big sister and her mother work the fabric through the machine while telling her to stop and go! Her current service dog, Baggins, has been at her side for almost 9.5 years alerting for seizures, picking up dropped items, hitting access and elevator buttons, opening doors, doing behavior disruption tasks and social bridging. However, in August of 2024, Baggins was diagnosed with a heart condition giving him just 6-12 months to live. With that being said, Veronica will need a new service dog to be trained to help with all of these tasks moving forward.
