Buried underneath the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico lies the Chicxulub crater, a 66 million year old impact crater formed by an asteroid or comet thought to be anywhere from 6 to 50 miles in diameter. Debris from the explosion was thrown into the atmosphere, putting chemicals in the air and soil, severely changing the climate.
