Strangely, originally published in quarto format in London seven years earlier, this has become a classic of Australian children's literature, republished in numerous editions over the years most notably being the colour-plate edition of 1924, though this first edition local copy still remains in fair to good condition overall despite its age and few faults as an important landmark in Australian literature, and it is now increasingly scarce in this early form.
