It is a familiar visitor to backyard feeders, where it prefers suet, and in the winter it will join in flocks of chickadees, nuthatches, and other active little birds in parks and woods. It uses its chisel-shaped bill to excavate and forage on wood, and its stiff tail as a brace to cling onto a tree. All embroidered bird patches have an iron-on backing, but the adhesive is temporary.
