We’re known for our love of DOXA Subs. In any flavor, any color, from the classic orange-dialed Professional to the stunning silver-dialed Searambler, we love 'em all. In fact, the original inspiration behind Analog:Shift was squarely centered on DOXA! While not nearly as well-known as the Blancpain Fifty-Fathoms or the Rolex Submariner, the DOXA Sub series played an integral role in the development of the modern diver's watch. The first generation of the model, introduced in 1967, brought innovations we now take for granted: the unidirectional bezel with the US Navy's no-decompression dive timing marks engraved, the expanding bracelet, and an oversized luminous minute hand. After its introduction, DOXA rapidly became a household name for professional and amateur divers in the late 1960s and 1970s, and the Sub 300 evolved into an even more capable and reliable instrument. What we have here is an orange-dialed 'Professional' model from early in the production, 1960s. You might say that the orange dial variants are the prototypical colorway for the Sub and alway desirable, and this is one of the most classic iterations. It features an excellent, strong 42.5mm steel 'cushion' case with an acrylic crystal, a steel decompression/timing bezel, a 'sailing ship' caseback, and the arguably prototypical orange dial. Powered by a robust and proven automatic-winding ETA movement, this piece comes fitted to a correct beads-of-rice 'expandro' bracelet with a DOXA signed extending clasp. With its vibrant dial colorways and unique overall appearance the SUB 300 line is quite simply one of the best dive watches ever produced — making this standout early model a very important part of dive watch history, as well as playing a major part in the origin of Analog:Shift. Clean examples of vintage Sub 300s such as this one truly do not surface often — so don't miss out on this fantastic example!
