The band name was inspired by the traveling medicine shows of the old Wild West and singer Tom Sawyer's eye patch that reminded him of Captain Hook from the Peter Pan story. After the band switched to a new record company in 1976, they shortened their name to Dr. Hook. This second round again produced big hits, including "When You're In Love With A Beautiful Woman", "A Little Bit More" and "Sharing The Night Together". Dr. Hook continued to exist until 1985, after Tom Sawyer left the band two years earlier.
