Prefers a shaded area or dark corner of the garden, as low light brings out the bright colors of the leaves. Too much intense sunlight may result in leaves with a scorched, dry, st reaky appearance. Water the plant deeply to saturate the root zone, and then allow the top of the soil to dry slightly before watering again, as soggy soil smothers the roots and causes rot.
