Dragon's Havoc - Atari 7800
A lost age when the Dragon of Storms and the Dragon of Embers unleashed their fury, for the Dragon of Storms wielded the power of wind and sea, while the Dragon of Embers called up on stone and flame. Scattered across the land were strange structures. Some called them cities, others said they were tombs built by some forgotten race. Their interiors were dangerous, and even a dragon would not enter one without consideration. And yet, there came a time when seven monarchs of the Dragons coordinated their efforts and pushed deep into one of the larger sprawls of metal and darkness. What they found there only they know, but they spread beyond those cold spires, bringing with them armies of griffins, harpies, and other strange beasts. The Dragon of Storms and the Dragon of Embers were to reach an accord of their own, realizing that their strengths, when combined, could potentially make them invincible. Their plans were interrupted when a host of beasts invaded their sanctuary, aiming to stop any possible threat to the seven monarchs. But the two dragons would not be stopped so easily – raging like a roiling storm and burning like kindled embers, they took to the sky to fight back, and an angered dragon is practically unstoppable… Gameplay When starting a new game, you first need to choose to play as the Dragon of Storms or the Dragon of Embers. There is no effective difference in abilities between the two dragons. In a two-player game, the first player is the Dragon of Storms, and the second player is the Dragon of Embers. Your dragon will gain power as their rage, or havoc, is increased, but be careful, as you can easily lose this power if you are reckless! When you hit enemies, your Havoc Meter will increase. This will increase your speed and the rate at which you can use your fire breath. Any missed shots will decrease your Havoc Meter and slow you back down. A full Havoc Meter will give you a shield, allowing you to get hit without losing a life. A full Havoc Meter will also double the score of any enemy you defeat. Getting hit by an enemy, shot, or solid object will empty your meter and you will lose one life. There are seven stages, each with three sections: An outdoor area, an indoor area, and a battle with a Dragon Monarch. The game is over when you lose all lives, or if you pass all seven stages and defeat the plans of the Seven Dragon Monarchs! If you lose all of your lives, you may continue on the last stage you played, but your score will be reset to zero points. Enemies Enemies will take multiple hits with your fire breath to kill, but will start flashing when they are one hit away from defeat. Keep a sharp watch on their behaviors and appearance when attacking to best manage your Havoc Meter. Remember that defeating an enemy with a full Havoc Meter will result in double points! Griffin: Relentless beasts combining the strength of a lion with the fierceness of an eagle. Peryton: Wicked and wily elk-headed birds of prey, ever swooping towards their victims. Dragonhead Sentry: Strange constructs that produce dragon breath with uncanny aim. Harpy: Harriers who can distract the unwary, often before swarming and overwhelming their quarry. Elite harpies are known for their speed and swift attacks. Gargoyle: Faces surrounded by spinning orbs, often placed in areas to guard passages or more powerful foes. Revenant: Fallen dragons reanimated to serve a strange master. Gateway: Ancient stone blocks. They do not attack, but can hold up against large amounts of dragon’s breath. Dragon: Strong, fast, and devastating – you need to be in formidable shape and sharp mind to take on your own kind! Dragon Monarch: Seven Monarchs, each with a title proclaiming their dominion. Hit their head to damage them, and be careful to avoid their own breath attacks and the assault of their personal vanguard. Features Dragon's Havoc features seven stages, each with three sections. Screenshots AtariVox Support Dragon’s Havoc supports the use of an AtariVox or SaveKey device to save your high scores. If you have such a device, make sure it is plugged into the right controller port on your Atari 7800 before you power up Dragon’s Havoc. Your top five scores will be saved automatically to your AtariVox or SaveKey, and they will then be restored when you next play the game, as long as the device remains connected to your system in the second port. They look great sitting on a shelf with your other boxed homebrew games, or alongside games from the classic Atari 2600 library. We only have a limited number of boxes for each game, and there is no guarantee they will become available again once our supplies are exhausted.
