I suspect that a main theme in these works is fragility.By incorporating genuine Lapis Lazuli alongside other authentic pigments, the work also gestures toward value and rarity amid environmental degradation. The precious materials contrast with the idea of “draining the swamp,” evoking the tension between extraction and preservation.The painting plays with the idea of value, as lapis lazuli is one of the most expensive pigments to use.
