Get over here! I’m one of only a few people at Lab HQ who tolerate Drake (I don’t just tolerate him, I fuck with him!). Yeah, Drake's huge, but I sorta feel like he’s in the spot that Kanye occupied back around 2007 - remember Graduation vs. Curtis? - and Kanye is now in 50 Cent’s spot: still at the top, but losing his grasp on the people fast. And like Graduation, when Scorpion dropped over the summer, the question lighting up group chats wasn’t “do you like it,” it was: “which songs are your favorites.” So here’s mine: “Nonstop,” “I’m Upset,” “Elevate,” “Peak,” “Jaded,” “Finesse,” “That’s How You Feel,” “In My Feelings” (don’t lie - those few days before it got played out were sick), “Don’t Matter To Me” (Michael!), “After Dark” (Static!), “March 14th”… what can I say, I’m just a *disc 2* type of dude (read: sad). Overall, not as good as NWTS or Take Care, but light years better than Views (or any of Kanye’s latest 20 minute albums). And while these 25 tracks squeezed onto four sides of wax could have easily been a triple LP, this official 2LP sounds surprisingly great... Honestly I’m shocked they got this to market before zee Germanz and their lightning-fast bootlegs.
