A choral, image-based response to the 1989 massacre at l'Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal. Mary, a passionate young mathematician, struggles with sexism and hostility in a universit y engineering department. She is haunted both by events in Montreal and by Hypatia, the female philosopher and mathematician who in 415 AD was killed by an angry mob in Alexandria.
