A man walking along the sidewalk suddenly slips and mourns over his own death since he sees his shadow being run over by a truck. This is surely a case of mistaken identity. In our case too, the Seer (Self) and the seen (body) seem to have become one. We think 'I am the body' and consequently we suffer. This book establishes the identity of the individual jiva and the Infinite Reality. Through the path of discrimination between the Seer and the seen the student is guided towards the highest Truth. Through Drg Drsya Viveka, Adi Sankaracharya helps us ascertain 'who we are' and guides us in meditation so that we can realise our true nature of unconditional Bliss and end all sorrows for all time. A question of the utmost importance for the understanding of higher Vedanta Philosophy is that which wishes to distinguish the 'Seer' from the 'Seen'. The central theme of the book is that Brahman is realized through mystic or Yogic samahdi. After this state is attained, one can see Brahman wherever one turns one's eyes. In this short and beautiful composition, Adi Sankara, the Master, has condensed the essence of Vedanta in just 31 verses, which are very useful to all serious seekers. Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda's commentary makes this process a vivid and joyful experience.
