This means it is adequately rated to prevent excess water from penetrating the pants material, while also being breathable to allow hot air produced by your body to escape the inner layers of the pants so you don't overheat. In the knees you'll find CE Level 2 armour for maximum impact protection, which is important when off-road and on uneven and loose surfaces.
