In this beginner-level class, you'll learn to spin your own yarn using a simple tool called a drop spindle -- no spinning wheel required! This is a perfect craft for fiber-loving apartment dwellers, as it requires only minimal tools and a small amount of space, yet it packs a huge punch. You can even spin on the subway. What's better than making your own custom yarn?! In this workshop, you'll learn: Overview of various plant and animal fiber types How to prepare fiber for spinning on a drop spindle Everything you need to know to start spinning yarn, including: -Pre-drafting and staple length -Attaching a leader -Spindling -Potential problems and how to fix them -Plying Each student will make a small ball of wool yarn, which you can use to knit, weave, or simply to take home and admire! No previous experience is required for this class. All are welcome!
