Drosera binata Typical (T-form) is the nominate type specimen of this iconic forked sundew, native to southeastern Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand from sea level to 1,000 meters in wet seepages and cliffsides. Its distinctive bifurcating leaves and prolific tentacle production make it a foundational species for any serious carnivorous plant collection, combining historical significance with reliable vigor and elegant morphology. Care Requirements Light — Full sun, 6+ hours of direct sunlight daily. A south-facing window, outdoor placement, or grow lights work well. Water — Pure water only, under 50ppm dissolved solids. Use distilled, reverse osmosis, or collected rainwater. Most tap water will not work. Use the tray method — keep roots sitting in a shallow tray of water. Soil — Pure peat moss or long-fiber sphagnum, with optional perlite or sand added for drainage. Garden soil will not work. Dormancy — Varies by species. Temperate Drosera require 3–4 months of cool winter dormancy. Tropical and subtropical species grow year-round and do not require dormancy. Humidity — Moderate to high humidity preferred.
