Drott’s debut full-length album Orcus delivers an epic, otherworldly ride that spans ten immersive tracks. Right from “The Lure” and “Caerdroia”, you’re pulled into a maze of sound — with the sprawling “Katabasis” and haunting “The Strait” further deepening the journey. The closing title track “Orcus” ties it all together in a powerful finale. Pressed on 12" black vinyl in a gatefold sleeve, this 2021 release from the Norwegian trio (featuring members of Enslaved and Ulver) forges a unique, instrumental progressive rock sound. The album explores the concept of the underworld — a symbolic descent into realms beyond, where Orcus, punisher of broken oaths, presides. Standout tracks include “Psychopomp” — acting as a spectral guide through darkness — and “By the Lunar Lake”, which offers a moment of reflective calm before the whirlwind of “The Marauders”, “Grey Gull” and “Arch of Gloom”. The sonic palette blends metal, jazz, classical, and ambient textures into a rich, cinematic experience. This is a must-have for fans of dark, imaginative, and boundary-pushing instrumental rock.
