The original art was hand drawn and coloured by Shane Egan in the mid 70's. Shane had this to say on it's inception... "I was airbrushing Peter’s boards, shop window & some women’s clothing at his factory when he asked me to design a board decal. We were hanging out a bit in the surf & socially and he was just orchestrating the first of the Stubbies contests. Peter was always a very charismatic & theatrical character.I feel the decal artwork epitomises his presence & the mood of the time.Though I wasn’t conscious of the inner turmoil Peter was experiencing then, perhaps there was some subliminal message that helped inspire the decal's theme.The figure emerging, arms outstretched, from the barrel is somewhat androgynous and is meant to represent the feeling of total exhilaration and freedom".
