Known commonly as Scaly Male Fern, the Dryopteris affinis is a robust, semi-evergreen fern with a rosette of foliage. The plant produces yellow green pinnae that matures into a for est green, with golden scales on the stem and midrib. It would be a wonderful addition to any border, bed or cottage garden. This plant is tolerant of most soils and positioning, however it thrives best in dappled, part or full shade in a moist, well drained soil. Can tolerate partial or full sun if watered regularly. This plant can be drought tolerant, once it is established.
