Quick Facts: ABV: 15% (30 Proof) | Origin: United States | Style: Orange Curaçao Liqueur | Distillery: Heaven Hill Production & Heritage Heaven Hill Distillery, headquartered in Bardstown, Kentucky, has been producing spirits since 1935 and remains the largest family-owned and operated distilled spirits supplier in the United States. The DuBouchett line represents the company's range of fruit liqueurs and cordials. This Orange Curaçao is blended from distilled extracts of oranges, lemons, and Curaçao fruit — the dried peel of the lahara orange native to the island of Curaçao in the West Indies. Heaven Hill emphasizes the use of 100% natural fruits and flavorings in this expression, distinguishing it from competitors that rely more heavily on artificial ingredients. Tasting Notes Aroma: Freshly cut orange peel leads immediately, followed by softer notes of candied citrus zest and a faint floral undertone. The nose is clean and direct, without heavy syrupy sweetness. Taste: The entry is bright with tangy orange, moving quickly into a mid-palate where the characteristic bitterness of the lahara fruit becomes apparent. The sweetness and tartness maintain a steady balance, with lemon extract adding a subtle sharpness that prevents the profile from becoming one-dimensional. Finish: Medium-short, with lingering bitter orange peel and a light sugary fade. The bitterness reasserts itself gently at the close, leaving a dry citrus impression. How to Drink DuBouchett Orange Curaçao At 15% ABV, this liqueur is designed primarily as a mixing ingredient rather than a standalone sipper. It works well chilled in small pours but reaches its full potential behind the bar. Margarita: Substituting orange curaçao for triple sec adds a slightly more bitter, complex citrus layer to the classic tequila-lime combination. Mai Tai: Orange curaçao is a traditional component of the Mai Tai; DuBouchett's natural fruit profile complements aged rum without overwhelming the orgeat. Sidecar: The bitter-sweet orange character balances cognac's richness and fresh lemon juice, keeping the drink structured and crisp.
