Roberts duckbill napping shears (CCW SKU AC23) for trimming sprouts, loose tufts and fibre tips exactly level with the pile. This is a must for carpet cleaning and installation technicians. The duckbill design lies flat on the carpet while curved handles keep fingers above the carpet. Why duckbill rather than ordinary shears The duckbill blade lies flat on the carpet, so the cut is made level with the pile rather than at an angle. That gives you a sprout trimmed flush and invisible, instead of a divot where you cut too deep or a stub where you did not cut deep enough. It is the difference between a repair the customer never notices and one they find immediately. Specifications Brand Roberts SKU AC23 Blade Duckbill (flat lower blade) Handles Curved, offset above the blade Length Not confirmed. What They Are For Sprouts: single tufts standing above the pile after cleaning Loose fibre tips and fuzzing on loop and cut pile Stained fibre tips, where the stain sits only at the tips of the pile Blending the edges of a carpet repair or patch into the surrounding pile Using Them Lay the duckbill blade flat on the pile beside the sprout. Keep the blade flat and the handles raised; do not tilt the tip down into the pile. Trim the sprout level with the surrounding pile in one cut. Brush the area with your hand and check it from a low angle. Never pull a sprout. Pulling takes the row with it and turns a five-second fix into a repair. Care Wipe the blades clean and dry them before they go back in the van. Keep them for carpet and fibre only; wire, staples and hard materials will damage the edge. Frequently Asked Questions Napping shears or ordinary carpet shears? Ordinary shears such as the Floordot 10 in carpet shears are for general trimming and cutting. Napping shears are for cuts that must sit exactly level with the pile, where a visible divot would be worse than the sprout. Can I trim out a stain? Only where the stain is limited to the fibre tips. If it goes down into the pile, trimming leaves a low spot and the job becomes a repair. Can I use them on wool and rugs? They cut any pile fibre. On long or dense pile take small cuts and check as you go.
