He was born in 1835 in the Golok region of Tibet and was considered a reincarnation of the great master Longchen Rabjam. He received teachings and transmissions from many of the most highly realized masters of his time and became renowned as a scholar, meditation master, and tertön, or discoverer of hidden treasures. He was mainly known for emphasizing Dzogchen's practice, considered the Nyingma tradition's highest teaching. Dudjom Lingpa passed away in 1861, and his teachings continue to be studied and practiced today by his students and many other practitioners.
