With no added sugar, colors, flavorings and preservatives, the Dumabara Kithul Jaggery is a much loved sweet that is all Sri Lankan. Kithul Jaggery is a product that comes from boiling the sap of the Kithul flower and poured into molds which are usually fashioned out of coconut shells. This is a tradition that has been passed on through the generations. Dumbara Kithul Jaggery is a healthier alternative to refined sugar while it boasts of a softer texture making it melt in your mouth. It is enjoyed with tea and other drinks as a sweetener while many Sri Lankans use it to make a number of sweetmeats during the Avurudhu Season (Sinhala and Tamil New Year) as well as special occasions. Kithul Jaggery is even used in Ayurveda to prepare medications due to its medicinal properties. It also aids in digestion and prevents constipation. Kithul Jaggery is also rich in its antioxidants, minerals, calcium, fiber and salt.
