Duotone Flow Bamboo
Duotone Flow Bamboo SUP The Duotone Flow Bamboo SUP is the premium bamboo construction version of Duotone’s Malibu-style hard paddleboard, designed for paddlers who want smooth gli de, reassuring stability and a more direct, responsive feel underfoot. It is a board for relaxed flat-water paddling, small to moderate waves, coastal cruising and longboard-inspired SUP surfing. Compared with the standard Duotone Flow, the Flow Bamboo keeps the same easy-going, progression-friendly shape but upgrades the construction to Duotone’s FULL CUSTOM BAMBOO layup. That gives the board a stiffer, livelier and more premium feel, with every paddle stroke and weight shift transferring more directly into the water. This is a very good choice if you are moving on from an inflatable SUP and want a proper hard-board feel without going too narrow, too short or too technical. It rewards improving paddlers, but still has enough shape and response to keep more experienced riders interested when the waves turn on. Who is the Duotone Flow Bamboo best for? Paddlers wanting a premium hard SUP for flat water, small waves and coastal cruising. Improving SUP surfers who want easy wave catching and a smooth, longboard-style ride. Riders upgrading from an inflatable SUP who want better glide, rail feel and response. Intermediate paddlers who want one hard board for relaxed paddling and fun surf sessions. Experienced riders who prefer flowing turns, trimming and classic longboard-style SUP surfing over aggressive shortboard performance. Who might prefer something else? The Flow Bamboo is not the right board if your main priority is maximum touring speed, racing, or compact performance surfing in steep, punchy waves. For longer distance paddling, look at our touring paddleboards. For more wave-specific shapes, compare it with our surf SUP boards. If storage, transport or travel convenience matter more than hard-board performance, an inflatable paddleboard may still be the better option. Shape and on-water feel The Flow Bamboo uses a wider, rounded nose to help the board glide early and pick up waves with less effort. On flat water, that translates into a relaxed, efficient feel for gentle cruising, estuary paddles and calm coastal sessions. In small surf, it helps you get onto waves earlier, giving you more time to set your line and enjoy the ride. The volume through the middle of the board gives it a settled, confidence-building platform. This is especially useful if you are newer to hard boards, moving across from an inflatable, or paddling in mixed UK conditions where a session can involve flat water, wind chop and small waves all in one outing. The tail is refined enough to let you turn the board properly once you step back. It is not designed to be a twitchy, high-performance shortboard SUP. Instead, it encourages long, smooth carves, trimming down the line and flowing from one turn into the next. FULL CUSTOM BAMBOO construction The Flow Bamboo is built using Duotone’s FULL CUSTOM BAMBOO construction. This combines a lightweight CNC-shaped EPS core with a composite-bamboo-PVC sandwich layup. In practical terms, it gives the board a stiff, direct and lively feel, with efficient power transfer from your paddle stroke and immediate feedback when you move your weight or engage the rail. The bamboo sandwich construction also helps keep the board light while adding the durability needed for regular use across flat water, coastal paddling and small-wave SUP surfing. If you want the Flow shape but prefer a more premium build and a more connected feel on the water, this is the version to choose. Complete your setup For the best setup, pair the Flow Bamboo with a quality SUP paddle, a suitable leash from our SUP leash collection, and a protective composite board bag for transport and storage. We would also recommend adding SUP rail tape to help protect the rails from paddle marks, especially on a premium hard board like this. Buying advice from The SUP Company The Flow Bamboo is the version to choose if you like the idea of the Flow shape but want a more premium, more responsive ride. It suits paddlers who value feel and feedback: the board responds quickly to paddle strokes, foot movement and rail pressure, making it more rewarding as your technique improves. Choose the 10'0" x 29" if you are lighter or more confident and want the liveliest option. Choose the 10'0" x 30" if you want the best all-round balance. Choose the 10'6" x 31" if you are heavier, newer to hard boards, or want the most forgiving platform for mixed flat-water and small-wave use. If you are unsure which size is right, speak to our team or visit the SUP Company Test Centre at Woodmill. Hard-board sizing is worth getting right, especially if you are upgrading from an inflatable SUP. The main difference is construction. The standard Flow uses Duotone’s CUSTOM CNC construction, while the Flow Bamboo uses the more premium FULL CUSTOM BAMBOO layup. The Flow Bamboo is stiffer, more direct and more responsive underfoot. Is the Duotone Flow Bamboo suitable for beginners? It can suit confident beginners, especially in the 10'6" x 31" size, but it is best viewed as a progression-friendly hard SUP rather than a first-time inflatable package. You will need suitable storage, transport and a little more care when handling it on land. Is the Duotone Flow Bamboo good in waves? Yes. The Flow Bamboo is designed for small to moderate waves and longboard-style SUP surfing. It catches waves early, trims smoothly and supports long, flowing turns. It is not intended as a compact high-performance surf SUP for steep, critical waves. Can I use the Flow Bamboo on flat water? Yes. The rounded nose, stable mid-section and Malibu-style outline make it enjoyable for flat-water cruising, calm coastal paddles, harbours, lakes and estuaries. For serious distance paddling, a longer touring board will be more efficient. Which Duotone Flow Bamboo size should I choose? As a guide, choose 10'0" x 29" if you are up to 80kg and want the most responsive feel, 10'0" x 30" if you are up to 90kg and want the best all-round balance, or 10'6" x 31" if you are up to 115kg or want maximum stability. Does the Flow Bamboo come with a paddle or leash? No. The Flow Bamboo is supplied as a board with fins. Paddle, leash, board bag and rail protection are separate unless included in a specific bundle or product option. Should I fit rail tape to the Flow Bamboo? Yes, we would recommend rail tape on a new hard SUP. It helps protect the rails from paddle marks and is a sensible addition on a premium board that you want to keep looking good. Is a hard SUP better than an inflatable? A hard SUP normally gives better glide, faster acceleration, more accurate rail feel and a more responsive ride. An inflatable is easier to store, travel with and transport. The Flow Bamboo is best for paddlers who can manage the practical side of owning a hard board and want the improved on-water feel.
