Dust Kicker grew out of my 20 Days of Horses series, part of my 2026 100 Day Project. It was inspired in part by the Year of the Fire Horse and, if I'm being honest, by my husband' s recent fascination with horses- which has had me looking at these incredible animals with fresh eyes. Rather than aiming for realism, I wanted to capture the spirit of the horse: its quiet strength, movement, independence, and unmistakable presence. Through layers of acrylic, house paint, graphite, and expressive mark-making, the painting invites you to look beyond the subject and get lost in the interplay of color, texture, and shape.
