Starting NP Biopellets Safely in an Established Aquarium Rinse lightly if dusty, then place the pellets in a fluidized reactor with enough flow to keep the media in motion. Start with 25-50% of the target amount if nitrate is high or the aquarium is sensitive, then add more in stages as testing allows. Direct the reactor outlet toward the protein skimmer and maintain vigorous aeration. Test nitrate and phosphate weekly and top up the pellets as they are consumed.
