E&J VS 750ML P.E.T.
E&J VS 750ML P.E.T. is a column-distilled California brandy bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) in a convenient 750ml plastic format. Distilled within three months of fermentation to pre serve grape freshness, this expression has remained one of America's top-selling brandies since E&J Distillers launched in 1938. Quick Facts: ABV: 40% (80 proof) | Origin: Central Valley, California, USA | Minimum 2 Years Aged | Distillery: E&J Distillers (Modesto, CA) Production & Heritage E&J Distillers was founded in 1938 in Modesto, California, in the heart of the state's Central Valley — one of the most productive grape-growing regions in the world. The VS expression is made from a blend of French Colombard, Folle Blanche, St. Emilion, and early Barbera wine grapes, each vintage distilled through column stills within three months of fermentation to capture peak aroma and flavor. After distillation, the spirit rests in oak barrels for a minimum of two years before blending and bottling. The column still method yields a notably clean, consistent distillate, distinguishing E&J VS from pot-still brandies that tend toward heavier, more rustic character. Tasting Notes Aroma: Gentle waves of vanilla and caramel greet the nose first, followed by crisp apple and a light undercurrent of toasted oak. The bouquet is inviting without being heavy, reflecting the column still's clean distillation profile. Taste: The entry is soft and light-bodied, with immediate caramel sweetness giving way to dried fruit and vanilla at mid-palate. Subtle toasted oak rounds things out toward the peak, adding just enough structure to keep the brandy from feeling thin. Finish: Crisp and clean, with moderate length. Vanilla and light oak linger gently, leaving the palate refreshed rather than coated. How to Drink E&J VS E&J VS performs well on the rocks or with a splash of water, where the cold opens up its fruit notes while tempering the oak. Its light body and clean profile also make it a natural cocktail base. A Brandy Sour benefits from the spirit's crisp apple and vanilla notes balancing lemon juice and simple syrup. In a Sidecar, E&J VS provides a smooth foundation that lets Cointreau and citrus shine without competing. For warm-weather drinking, try it in a Brandy and Ginger Ale highball — the brandy's caramel sweetness pairs effortlessly with ginger's spice. Best For Mixing classic brandy cocktails at home without overspending on spirit costs Introducing someone to brandy who typically drinks whiskey or rum Backyard gatherings and casual entertaining where glass bottles are impractical Stocking a home bar with a reliable, everyday brandy Frequently Asked Questions What does E&J VS taste like? E&J VS is a soft, light-bodied brandy with dominant flavors of caramel, vanilla, and dried fruit, supported by subtle toasted oak and a crisp, clean finish. How does E&J VS compare to Christian Brothers VS? Both are value-priced California brandies, but E&J VS is typically a dollar or two less expensive per 750ml and is column-distilled, which gives it a lighter, cleaner profile. Christian Brothers VS tends to taste slightly sweeter and heavier by comparison, making E&J VS the more versatile cocktail mixer of the two. Is E&J VS good for cocktails? E&J VS is one of the most popular cocktail brandies in the United States, prized for its clean, neutral-leaning character that blends seamlessly into Sidecars, Brandy Sours, and highball drinks without overwhelming other ingredients. Where is E&J VS made? E&J VS is produced at E&J Distillers in Modesto, California, located in the Central Valley, where the warm climate produces the French Colombard, Folle Blanche, St. Emilion, and Barbera grapes used in the blend. What foods pair well with E&J VS? Grilled stone fruits like peaches or nectarines complement the brandy's dried-fruit notes. Vanilla bean ice cream or crème brûlée mirror its caramel and vanilla flavors. Sharp cheddar cheese provides a savory contrast to the spirit's sweetness, and dark chocolate with toasted almonds echoes the oak character on the finish. What sizes does E&J VS come in? E&J VS is widely available in 200ml, 375ml, 750ml, 1L, and 1.75L formats, with the 750ml P.E.T. plastic bottle being a popular option for portability and convenience. Is E&J VS worth the price? E&J VS positions firmly as an entry-level brandy, and within that tier it delivers above-average quality — genuine barrel character from its minimum two-year aging, clean distillation, and a multi-grape blend that many competitors at similar price points do not match. Why E&J VS? What separates E&J VS from the crowded value-brandy field is a production detail most consumers never consider: every vintage is distilled within three months of fermentation, a timeline that preserves grape aromatics typically lost in brandies that sit in tank storage before distillation. The column still process then strips away heavier congeners, resulting in a spirit that punches above its weight class in smoothness and consistency. A four-grape blend of French Colombard, Folle Blanche, St. Emilion, and Barbera contributes more complexity than single-varietal competitors at the same price tier. For anyone who needs a dependable brandy that works neat, on ice, or in a shaker, E&J VS remains the benchmark at its price point for good reason.
