Testing modes Push cut and slicing analysis EDGE LAB instruments operate in two modes: MAX (sharpness) and SLC (slicing). In addition to standard push-cut testing, the system enables slicing tests using dedicated fixtures and ultra-thin polymer test media. Slice test media is a 0.25 mm (0.010") polymer, available in SLCTM20 and SLCTM30 configurations. It enables direct comparison with other sharpeners and established edge standards. Each test — push or slice — generates dozens of logged data points, compared to a single data point in standard sharpness testing. Analysis Deeper edge evaluation Each slicing test produces dozens of data points, allowing detailed comparison of edge geometry, finish, and cutting behavior. This enables objective answers to long-standing sharpening questions like toothy vs polished edges. Flexibility Test real materials In addition to standard media, you can test paper, rubber, or other flexible materials up to 2 mm thick for real-world performance evaluation. Slicing tests may be conducted manually with the included SLCF20 test fixture or with the aid of one of our Slice accessories. Software Advanced data control The included Windows interface allows you to set test parameters, calculate averages, and export data to CSV for analysis in Excel. The Pro version adds real-time graphing for deeper insight into cutting performance.
