These benches were created for St. Mary’s Church in Ealing, commissioned by Ealing Council. Their design is simple yet refined, crafted from locally sourced, sustainable oak. With each of these 2 benches, the front and back seat rails are steam-bent, with slats carefully inserted between them, providing stability to the structure. The legs, made from 4cm-thick oak, ensure strength and durability. Each bench measures 2 meters in diameter, with a 1-meter central gap to accommodate tree growth. The final image depicts a large horseshoe-shaped bench set on a stone base in the churchyard. I was commissioned to design and craft wooden seating to complement the stone structure. This seating follows the same aesthetic as the two freestanding benches, featuring steam-bent front and back seat rails with slats fitted between them.
