Before the sun clears the horizon, there's a window of maybe ten minutes when the sky isn't one color but dozens — peach bleeding into lavender, gold dissolving into the palest blue, the whole atmosphere caught between what it was and what it's becoming. Photographers call it the golden hour, but the truly magical part is the minutes just before it, when the light hasn't committed to anything yet. That in-between is what painters have chased for centuries. Turner built an entire career around it — the idea that light itself could be the subject, not just the thing that illuminated the subject. The Impressionists took it further, breaking color into fragments that only resolved when you stepped back far enough. What they all understood was that early light doesn't simplify a landscape. It complicates it, beautifully, flooding every surface with color that shouldn't work together but does.
