These titles can be used in conjunction with the printed books for a fully multimedia program, or by themselves. Please contact the Continental Press for more information on the printed materials. Based on subjects that fascinate young readers, each of the twelve titles on the disk is a story containing words to increase the reader's awareness of the targeted short vowel sound. The short length of each story provides a sense of accomplishment for the youngsters. At a touch of a button, the entire sentence is read. For single word pronunciation, just click on the word. The sound level can be adjusted to fit your needs. These audio enhancements reinforce the correct short vowel sounds, making it easy for young learners to quickly hear the difference between the sounds.The use of animation allows the stories to spring to life on the computer screen as well as aid in comprehension of the story and understanding of the vocabulary. Activities are included to reinforce phonemic aware-ness and are entirely optional. A rhyming or compre-hension activity accompanies each page of the book. The activity directions are presented on the screen and read to the child. Immediate feedback lets the child know right away whether his or her answer choice was correct or not. At the first wrong answer choice, the child is told to "Try again." If the second attempt is also incorrect, the correct answer is given to avoid frustra-tion. When the correct choice is made at the first or second attempt, a positive feedback, such as That's Right, or Way to go!, is given.
