This variety can start producing as soon as 55 days after transplanting. Plants are very productive and are smaller in size which is perfect for small gardens. This squash is low calorie and high in fiber. I like to harvest the squash when they are a very pale light green color (around 4-6 inches across) because the skin is thin and inside flesh has less seeds. The skin will turn white when fully mature. I like to quarter the squash and sauté or grill with other vegetables. Flavor is more mild than zucchini. Planting InstructionsGermination: 5-10 days Seed Sowing Depth: 1/2” deep Sowing: Direct sowing is preferred after your last spring frost date. In warmer climates can also direct sow at the end of summer for a fall harvest. How to harvest: For the best flavor and texture harvest when the squash is about 3-4 inches across. Harvesting while on the small side ensures there are not a lot of seeds inside. Frequent harvesting promotes more production. It is very common, so dont worry. Spray with 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water to clean and disinfect. Repeat every 5 days or so as a preventative, or until you notice the spread of the disease has stopped. Common Pests: Critters like rabbits love to munch on newly germinated seedlings, so protection from small animals might be required. If you notice the leaves are chewed up and there are small black, green, or orange balls, worms/caterpillars are chewing up the plants. Spray with BT or spinosad to treat for the worms.
