The pueo is the native Hawaiian owl. It inhabits open grasslands, hunting human-brought rodents and lizards. Before human settlement in the Hawaiian Islands it's likely that pueo h unted other birds. They fly at dawn and dusk. Pueo make soft grass ground nests, rare for owls.
