Echoes is a mid-tempo piece in 2/4 that utilizes a common assortment of instruments. Rhythms are limited to quarter notes and rests and paired eighth notes. There are accents occur ring in several measures and heavy accents occurring only once, at measure 52. The heavy accents serve to bring the piece into the final 8 measures, the climax. The dynamics of this septet range from mp to f. “Rhythm echoing” starts at measure 5 and continues through to measure 21. Soon, a layering effect occurs amongst the instruments for the next 8 measures. From measures 29 through 45, the rhythm patterns amongst instruments become more inter-dependent, thereby creating a 3/4 feel for much of the time.
