The Echoic is a marriage of modern fabrics, environmentally friendly technologies and traditional textiles that have withstood the test of time. Born from a need for a durable jacket during surf trips to the windswept coastline of northern Spain, we borrowed from the heather palette of the Scottish highlands to pay homage to some of our favourite British mountains. They say the devil is in the details. And the Echoic has details in spades. At the core of the Echoic is Polartec’s warmest 300 weight fleece. Its velvety fibres are extruded from plastic containers diverted from landfill. (Yes, we’re swaddling you in shredded fizzy pop bottles.) The finished fabric is subtly quilted with memories of surf breaks and ridge lines. The Echoic’s shoulders and yoke are reinforced with a muted tweed spun from hard-wearing British wool. Elbows and inner sleeves are swathed in the same waxed cotton found on Barbour’s legendary coats. Reflective tape (imperceptible during daylight hours) enhances the jacket’s visibility when you’re walking along a winding country lane at dusk. Limited to small batch runs of 40 jackets (20 for women, 20 for men), the hybrid Echoic is cut and sewn in the artisanal textile district of north London using the latest construction techniques. Each jacket is individually inspected before being shipped to your door. When we pull on the Echoic, we’re reminded of clean air, plastic-free oceans and a rich soil. We hope the Echoic will create an echo within the activewear industry to take ever greater strides on environmental issues. Because what goes around comes around. The Echoic is designed and made with care and attention in Britain. Fun fact: YKK Natulon zips are used on the Echoic. These innovative Japanese fasteners are constructed from pulverised post-consumer polyester products, making Natulon the world’s first fully-recycled closure.
