Information My friend Daniel Schofield and I have been talking about this idea since I briefed him on the 24 Hours show in the fall of 2024. Dan had an idea to make clock which was welded in twelve places, each weld simultaneously holding the clock together and indicating another hour on the dial. I wanted to see if it was possible to make the form from a single piece of metal, held in tension by its twelve welds. Thanks to our little welding setup and a manual ten ton press, we figured it out here in the studio. Dan helped us make the project simpler, and simpler, and simpler, until our welds were nothing but a tack. The result is a precisely constructed form, punctuated by tiny welds, each one slightly different in shape, casting different tones on each of its twelve kaleidoscopic faces.
